Understanding the Service

eMails, from their inception and by their nature are very insecure.

You may send an email via your provider as an encrypted tsl or ssl stream, but that no way guarantees that the next hop after your provider is also encrypted, generally it is now. Most emails coming in to my server, because of the nature of emails, are totally unencrypted and in the clear.

The problem area with emails is that

  1. They can be read with out you being there, by some one breaking in to your PC.
  2. They can be stolen off your PC.
  3. They can be intercepted as you download them (pop downloads in the clear unless set to ssl)

To over come this we run a secure email service here in New Zealand on our own hardware.

  • Once an email is on our server, it will never leave the server, unless you forward it to some one.
  • Your reading of your emails is at our server not your PC.
  • It is read via https, so the traffic is as encrypted as your banks traffic is.
  • You can not access the webmail by http (in the clear).
  • POP does not work on our server so your emails can not be downloaded.
  • IMAP does not work on our server so your emails can not be read remotely.
  • Yes once you send an email from our server it is no longer secure. But then we have no control over that what so ever.

More than emails

  • We allow you to store files on our server under your account.
  • The files can be uploaded and downloaded as you need them.
  • Your account has 5 GB of storage space for files and emails

More on security

  • We run daily checks on our server to see what has been going on.
  • You will receive an email every day letting you know how many time you logged in and from here.
  • in that emails you also get notification about failed logins.
  • It is your responsibility to check the email and alert us if you see suspicious behaviour.
    • Logins that are not you.
    • Failed logins that are not you.
